My McMap

A pretty picture, no? Perhaps highlighting the electrical output of the USA on one hot night? Some sort of demographic tool?

No. This map above is an artistic rendering of the contiguous United States, lit up based on proximity of McDonald's to each other.

Yes, you read that correctly.

And according to the author, Stephen Von Worley, the longest one has to go in the lower 48 states to get their drunken Big Mac fix at 3 AM is 107 miles, roughly about a two hour drive at relatively normal speed through rural South Dakota.

I'm not sure whether this fact makes me pleased, stunned or upset. I could go down the entire anti-globalization, Fast Food Nation route, or I could take the higher ground and simply mock the American way of life nowadays, and how McDonald's has etched itself so deeply in that psyche (although I'm sure I'm never 10 minutes from a local Mickey D's in the Greater Toronto Area, no doubt).

Or I could just conclude that Mickey D's is friggin' delicious, and that this is, in fact, a fantastic thing.

Thoughts?
